Caffeinated Love

Anjali watches the raindrops decorating her glass window, gliding and reaching one another, creating a slow dance, accompanied by perfect silent rhythm. September has come finally bringing along heavy clouds, gloomy weather and memories of a beautiful chapter in her life. She stood still, wondering what had changed all this while or does things really changed. She could never be sure of that. The wind gushes through the crack of her windows, just like those memories filling up all the empty spaces on her mind and brings her back to herself, to a moment where everything were rosy, young and simple, where a love story knitted carefully in the name of friendship remain untold forever.

‘Anju, don’t you think it’s a perfect time for coffee’

“I told you, stop calling me with that name,I don’t like it.. and coffee? How can you ever consume that awfully tasteless caffeinated drink and I just hate that smell” smirked Anjali.

Please Anju, make one for me just once,I need coffee to continue with our assignment

“As far as I knew I have been doing the project alone all this while and you have been doing nothing than nudging me for coffee from just now’’ said Anjali while walking through her kitchen.

She can never say no to Sid, they had known each other since young and not even on his slightest thought, he doubted that Anjali might have had develop feelings for him. Beneath the arguments, beneath the pat on his shoulder, beneath the shares of jokes, beneath everything lies Anjali’s strong desire for him. She’s his shadow in the dark, the kind of person that would walk with him even when the world is against her.

The smell of that brew coffee is still alive till today, she doesn’t know when it all started, the same love that Sid had for coffee. Was it when Sid confessed to her that he’s in love with Maya?  Was it when her father decided that Raam is the right candidate for her to spend the rest of her life with? Was it when she cried her heart out to her mother about Sid on the night before her wedding with Raam? Was it when she started to secretly yearn for Sid during those nights when she was completely silent and wished that maybe she could’ve had changed the plot of her own script?

She made herself a cup of coffee just the way Sid loved it, thick and strong. It was drizzling outside and a coffee would just be great to spend some time on the porch while watching the rain drops slowly making its way to the ground. Slowly, she let herself carried away by her own thoughts.

Anju,I have something to tell you. I have been trying to tell you all this while but it just that I couldn’t find the right time to break the news to you.

‘Then what stopping you now, just kill the suspense’’
It’s Maya,I’m  in love with her..

Maya’s name pulled a string from her heart. She never thought Maya was the one who’s been filling up his thoughts, his dreams and his world all this while. She felt betrayed by her own assumption. She had let herself fooled and she could hardly blame anyone except her own self.

Everything that happened on that day was crystal clear to her mind. While she was taken a ride on her past, Raam’s voice forced her to travel back to the present moment. He had woken up from his evening nap. She saw him leaning on the door with a shawl on his hands. Maybe if she confessed her true feeling to Sid that day, perhaps it would be Sid the one standing there with a shawl on his hand. Destiny always has its own reason.

‘I was just wondering you might need this, it’s just cold outside there’ said Raam.

Raam is every woman’s dream. In fact he never fails her in any ways. Twenty two years of their marriage were a blissful one. Two kids, a beautiful mansion house by the sea and a reality that could just be a dream for a common person. She had it all but she felt nothing at all. Perhaps things don’t change from that moment she walked away. She still find herself keep going back to a place that she always been real.

‘I guess I don’t need that.I’m done with my coffee. It’s just too cold here’Anjali smiled

Anjali followed him inside and shut the door of her past with a smile, she will come again tomorrow to the same porch, with the same cup of coffee, just the way Sid loved it.

Maybe all she was hoping for it to rain tomorrow. It would be just perfect.

  6. Wonder why you waited for months before posting this. Its a beautiful piece TOSM. :)

A kind of sadness, yes. An unrequited love. Feelings not confessed. A compromise which looks good to the outside world. But that is a part of life of a few. For others THAT IS LIFE.

    Best Wishes

  7. Its a very good inspiring story you have come up with. Just like Anjali many women seem to be nagging their love until they realise they are too late. But i am glad that Anjali could find a lovable husband though not a love she yearned for with Sid. And her coffe cup every morning reminds her of her unforgotten love for Sid.

  8. Why is it always that unrequited love, melancholic, depressing yearnings rule our hearts when we have everything by our side ?? And why is that an unfulfilled love story more stimulates more emotions than a happy romance ?? Perhaps romance and happy dont make a heady mix..Anyways, it was a good piece...

    1. That's life..we always yearn for things we don't have..:| and as far as happy romance is concerned, its only for fairy tales

  9. Hey gal, this is hmm, I don't know what to say, more than perfect. It never swayed at all. Awesome narration. The first para is the cherry and the cake beneath it ;)

Coming to the story, it's very difficult to shut the door of the past once its open.Even if tried to, it will shut with a thud and probably I would be scared of it. okay you know what I mean, right? Let it rain, it would be soothing, a lot ;)

P.S. "right CANDIDATE" lol :P yup a candidate amongst many ;)
